How to Maintain Tile and Grout

Dirty Grout & Where The Problem Starts

Tile is known for its durability and ease to clean. However, most people are not aware of how to protect, maintain and preserve their tile floors to keep them looking beautiful. Unfortunately, stained grout can impair the entire tile's appearance. Often, tile installers will not offer maintenance tips for your grout. Even light floor traffic will leave your unprotected grout vulnerable for stains.

Grout is a cement-like material which is porous and absorbent. Grout holds in many contaminants like bacteria, dirt, grease, stains, odor, and mold. The solution to dirty grout can begin with the cleaning procedures and sealing or staining applications that Front Range performs.

Protect Your Grout

If you just had your shower or any tile or grout cleaned, repaired, or newly installed, there is no better time to have your grout sealed than the present! Otherwise, you are leaving your grout open for moisture, dirt, discoloration, and damage.

The Importance Of Sealing & Staining

Grout Sealing serves to protect and repel stains, moisture, odor, and contaminants, making longevity achievable. For these reasons grout should be sealed periodically to prevent any moisture penetration especially in areas that are exposed to water. Fabulous Grout will seal your grout pores shut.

Grout Staining will restore your discolored grout, create a new look, or even change dark colors to light. With the sealant inside the stain, Grout Staining will protect, waterproof, and repel stains too. This overall adds to a longer lasting new look. "We guarantee to enhance the look of your grout."

Please Note: The first step in maintenance is the sealing of the tile (if necessary) and the grout (if necessary). Generally, glazed tile requires no sealer. Some unglazed tile requires no sealer. Know the type of tile that is being installed. Test it with a small amount of water. If the surface darkens, it absorbs water and needs to be sealed.

Generally, cementitious grouts require sealing while specialty grouts like epoxy and furans do not. If the grout darkens with water, it needs a sealer.
